What a Mess!

Sometimes it seems as if our country has suddenly exploded, that the craziness, hatred, intolerance and fear on all sides just erupted overnight.  But you and I both know that’s not how things work.  It’s been there all along, in and from all of us.  It’s the pot with many ingredients that’s been simmering for a long time, gradually coming to a boil, that finally has spilled over, spreading into a huge, awful, seemingly uncontainable mess.  I don’t think we’ve yet set about cleaning up the mess – we’re busy hollering about how awful it is and whose fault it is.  But eventually, we’ll get to the business of cleaning it up.  We must.  And we always do.
